Therapeutic Nature Coaching
Do you feel stalled out or stuck in life?
Is your group looking for a fresh, new perspective or a new collective experience?
Maybe you’re facing a major decision and just can’t seem to get traction in any direction.
Do unhealthy habits continue to plague you despite your best efforts to quit or change?
You may be facing an addiction or compulsive behavior and 12-step programs just don’t appeal to you.
Or maybe you’ve made some progress in counseling, but talk therapy has run its course, and you’re needing a new perspective… or a deepening of experience.
Beyond the four walls of the counseling office, a nature experience can be all it takes to free the stuck energy and find the clarity you’re looking for. In my coaching practice, I guide individuals and groups into a nature immersion designed to stimulate the senses and allow the overactive nervous system to find rest.
What is therapeutic nature coaching?
Nature coaching is a safe, slow-paced guided experience in which you, the client, have the power of choice. Tapping into the wisdom of the forest, I gently guide you into a series of invitations specifically designed to meet your individual needs and goals. We begin with an opening of the senses, which helps us transition from the head to the heart. We may then explore another invitation or wander to a sit spot where we invite the healing presence of the forest to permeate. We bring it all together by finding application to your life and coaching goals.
What’s the difference between nature therapy and nature coaching?
Nature coaching is not therapy, nor is it ecotherapy. As the coaching relationship is a co-created relationship in which we collaborate to create and achieve your goals, so nature coaching is a partnership with the wild outdoors. The Forest Therapy Manual reminds us that nature is the therapist or coach. My role as coach is to gently guide you into that relationship. As we cross the threshold from our busy lives into the sanctuary of nature, we allow the wisdom and calm of the forest to provide the space for our healing. My clients have a wide range of experiences, many of which are significant, even profound.
How can nature coaching help my recovery?
In addiction or struggles with compulsive behavior, we become isolated, often hiding in shame and secrecy. Feelings of low self-worth abound. But in nature, we find acceptance, connection, and non-judgment - exactly what our hearts long for. The forest is intimately connected through an extensive root system and underground communications networks, so an encounter with an individual nature “being” is an encounter with the entirety of the forest. The safety of the forest offers the ultimate come-as-you-are invitation.
As many experts have noted, the opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection… acceptance. And nowhere do we find more non-judged acceptance than nature. After all, we are nature.
A great fit for groups
Nature is the perfect auditorium for a rich group experience. Through a combination of quiet, non-verbal expression and authentic sharing, I guide groups into a deepening of connection with each other through connection with the forest. Group nature experiences are ideal for taking working relationships to the next level, deepening those relationships, learning how to create a supportive group around you, and learning from each other.
